About the Author/Artist

Born in Portland, Oregon, Sage Franklin’s work is deeply rooted in a personal history of resilience; after a period of early childhood trauma, she was "saved" and raised by the man she calls her hero—a former Marine and pipefitting foreman. She spent the remainder of her childhood navigating a nomadic existence across the United States. The influences of her stepfather’s practical wisdom, her hippie mother’s free spirit, and her grandmother’s native teachings contribute to Sage’s primary authorial mission: writing with a dedicated therapeutic and healing intent.

A graduate of the University of Tennessee with a BA in Interdisciplinary Studies, Sage’s creative work is anchored by her studies in Creative Writing, Fine Art, Cultural Anthropology, and Legal Studies. Her vibrant lineage includes Native American, Sámi, Celtic, South Slavic, Creole, Spanish, and other trace ancestry. Together with her academic disciplines, Sage's diverse identity is the foundation for her commitment to nuance, rejection of ideological extremes, and dedication to depicting global cultures and human conflict with the highest degree of authenticity and respect.

Sage lives a secluded life in the United States with her husband and is a mother to adult children. Their household is ruled by Freya, a long-haired black cat named after the Norse goddess of beauty and war. While Freya firmly believes she is a dog and meets both Sage and her husband at the door when they return home, she remains, in Sage’s own words, "a total bitch to everyone else."
